We are 2 nights into a 4 nights stay at Camping Acapulco, Saint-Jean-De-Monts, Vendee, France, this place is awful, if you want to go to sleep before midnight don’t bother coming here loud dance music blares out all evening until midnight. The caravans are on top of each other we are about 1m away... from our neighbours who I can hear talking and walking around in their caravan. We came here for the pools for the children which are nice but not if the children don’t get any sleep. The mobile home itself was nice and had great blackout blinds which did help the children to try and catch up on some sleep in the mornings. We will not be coming back.

We booked to stay at Acapulco for 9 nights in May half term through Eurocamp, a park they described as “lively” and good for toddlers. We’d been to France the previous year out of season and hoped there’d be more of a holiday vibe going during half term this year. This was not the case, in fact... there was no vibe at all. This holiday park is mainly inhabited by French people who clearly privately own their caravans, as they’ve been modified with awnings and sheds and full-on gardens! We were the only British family in a sea of French people, who stared at us everywhere we went. There was no smile, no “bonjour”, no welcome whatsoever, we felt very unwelcome. The only positive was the swimming complex, which is amazing, but there was only one heated pool and the weather was unfortunately too cool to use the main kids pool/jacuzzi pool. The play park is ok, but we did not see another child play there during our whole stay, it’s as if the French don’t have any children?! The bar was closed some days, open on others, consistently empty. There is a takeaway pizza place that did average pizzas at above average prices. There’s street-food type food huts but they were closed for our entire stay. The on-site shop was open ONCE during our stay. It was a ghost town inhabited by unwelcoming French families. We’ll never stay here again.
As for the surrounding area, the Marvilla Parks next door was much more lively, lots of families and a buzz about it. But the local amenities were basic, a couple of cafes and a mini supermarket within walking distance but zero character and not worth visiting, apart from the beach, which is sandy and large.
Saint Jean Du Monts itself is a car drive away, about 10 mins up the road. Whilst it appears modernised and has a buzz about it, it was the cherry on the cake for us and we had just had enough of rude locals, constant staring, a total intolerance for our young children, and a clear disregard for British holiday makers. We wandered along the promenade and felt like monkeys in a zoo, it was honestly ridiculous. We were unable to enjoy the lovely beach or the extortionate ice creams we had just purchased. This experience cemented our desire to not return to France anytime soon.
We visited for 4 nights after being at another campsite in the Dordogne for a week and this campsite was such a disappointment. The mobile home was really old and tatty. The campsite is overcrowded with mobile homes, like a shanty town. We had ants in the kitchen and ordered pizza takeaway one night... which took 2 hours. Goodness knows where they got the 5 star rating from. The only positive was the pool was great for our 7 and 5 year old. We stayed at the site down the road in 2019, Clarys Plage which was much nicer. It was later in august and much quieter in the town. I would not come back to this area again, there are much nicer parts of France, that don't feel like Skegness.
We actually left a day early and went to Paris, feel robbed as it wasn't cheap!
So this review was written from start to finish of the holiday, so it’s long.
We arrived after 4hr + drive from riscoffe, easy drive no tolls.
Got here late in the afternoon and on arrival allocated a pitch, however we’re told we’d have to wait as a prior arrival may end up on our pitch as... their pitch wasn’t big enough. That wasn’t 100% correct, the Family didn’t like the pitch they’d been allocated. But we were told our pitch would still be ours if we weren’t happy with the pitch we had been changed too. Basically the pitch the other family had been given was a horrendous shape and surrounded by other tents. We chose our original pitch to the other families distaste, but thankfully the site kept to their promise.
We initially felt slightly deflated, site seemed crammed with vans and hardly any touring pitches were of good standard, however….
Site is clean, toilet paper available at toilets, no toilet seats, no hand wash accept occasional refill in front section. Pitches are pretty small, ours was a good size 285 & shaded apart from first thing in the am , dusty under foot but you expect that for France. Walking distance to beach and a few restaurants and bars.
To note showers close at 11pm, but there are 2 outer toilets to use overnight. waste disposal and toilet waste is only available as you leave the site. Bins too are at the entrance to the site. Although it’s a very busy site, it’s quiet in the morning which when u have teenagers is a must for sleeping 🤣
Pool is quite in morning till around 2pm, then gets really busy. They do occasionally ask everyone to get out of the pool and then all beds that have been ‘saved’ have their towels removed. Bit extreme but works!
Super u is great. Good prices and good stock.
You can walk for ages along the beach in both directions
Bike hire is reasonable and you can cycle for miles on off road paths. €10 euro a day or €50 a week. Washing machines €5
So in all a good site, think us brits are used to larger, flatter & quieter pitches but once you get over that and into the holiday spirit the site is great.
Stayed here for 10 nights. Well, checked out a night earlier than intended as we'd had enough. Our mobile home was on a tiny, cramped spot which was overlooked on all sides with our deck next to the road. Just enough room to park the car but no other space at all. Constantly has people walking past and... staring at us when we were outside as we were the only English family on the site. Had someone's tent up underneath the windows at the back and someone's car parked under my done bedroom window.
Our plot was next to a toilet block that had ping pong tables outside which we thought would be fun. We got woken up early every morning by young children screaming and shouting and running through the toilet block banging the doors. Every single night a large group of 20+ teenagers would arrive at the ping pong tables at about 11pm shouting, banging, playing loud music until about 2am. One night they threw something which set off our car alarm but luckily caused no damage. This was right next to our bedroom window - about 2 feet away. We complained to security that it had been happening every night and they argued with us, being incredibly rude and telling us that it hadn't been happening every night and was really rather hostile.
Our caravan itself was incredibly basic (an understatement!), cramped and poky.
The campsite is crammed with caravans with no space between them, far too busy and quite scruffy. It is not in St Jean de Monts as advertised but quite a long way out from the town at an area called Les Mouettes where there is a supermarket, a handful of naff snack-bar type restaurants and a few ships telling tourist tat.
The pool complex was good but gets very busy with big gangs of older teenagers who take over pretty the whole of the wave pool, pushing people out of the way and running about, jumping off the walls and landing on top of people. There are no lifeguards policing this most of the time or even at the top of the slides which could be very dangerous. Instead they seem to spend most of their time showing off for and chatting up the teenage girls in bikinis. Also, look out for the "towel game". They only announce it in French so if you suddenly see the pool emptying, get back to your sunbed! If you're not on it during the "game" then they'll remove your towel and all your belongings, dumping them who knows where.
All the food outlets close at the same time at lunchtime so if you fancy your lunch later than 1.30 ish you've had it! We had dinner in the restaurant one night which was distinctly average and took 1 1/2 hours to arrive despite the restaurant being almost empty and also ordered takeaway pizzas one night which we waited 1 1/2 for.
Overall, this holiday has been so disappointing. We were looking forward to it so much but we feel totally let down. In fact, it got so bad at point after about 4 nights if so little sleep that I even considered booking us into another site just to get away. We definitely won't be returning and the whole experience has made us incredibly wary of ever booking another holiday like this.
