Magic holiday
So as a single dad with 2 teenagers 14/15 boy/girl who has predominately camped in Devon/Cormwall, the kids request to go abroad filled me with stress at the thought of 3-4k price tag for the all inclusive that others post about.
So I decided to take the plunge with Eurocamp. I decided... on Rome due to its culture and historic sites. As opposed to say south of France which caters for classic beach, walk round a Marina type of affair. I chose camping village Fabulous campsite due to its location to the beach and access to Rome. We stayed in a 6 berth static caravan, although it’s more like a tiny lodge. The Covered veranda with seating was lovely. It was basic inside and I copped for the foldout settee bed. But it was clean and well appointed. Could have done with a cooker as I was on a budget, but it had a Big fridge, Gas hob, microwave and a plumbed BBQ outside, so more than enough. Brand new air con unit. Probably the best I’ve ever had abroad, even in a hotel made the caravan a cool haven in 34 degree heat. No kettle though. Prob get one at reception or bring travel kettle, but I just boiled water on the hob.
The pools are many and very clean. Caters for all ages. My two saw the ‘little ones’ pool and sighed but then walked around the corner to hear euro pop and a lot more cooler vibe and they loved it. A 3rd pool close by is fab for catch etc there is a great pool bar, offering all sorts of food. A lovely Gelato bar. It was busy, due to being mid/late August and sometimes like pea soup in the pools but the weather was 30+ degrees all week so I could live with it. lol my kids loved it. They had roving lifeguards who don’t mess about and cease some of the rowdier behaviour that you often get from young males in swimming pools, jumping in etc.
Entertainment was top class. On a weds and sat, there were 2 live bands that I would’ve paid to see in UK they were that good. Stage and lighting, the works.
Supermarket on site, probably mini budgens/Co-Op level. As you would expect, more expensive as it’s on site and I felt I was spending cash like it was going outa fashion whenever I went in. But if you have a car 5 mins away. Alcohol isn’t cheap in the bar either, but our lodge was 2 mins away with a nice fridge if you catch my drift. Big shout out to Cristina #bibbotours we stored our bags on first day in Rome as you can’t Check in until 4pm and we landed at 10am.
Cristina was very helpful, got us a private taxi and communicated on what’s app throughout the week for various requests/advice that I asked of her. for. Really recommend them. Lifesavers!! Used the bus, metro easily enough. Went all over Roma on them which at first is daunting but google maps/Nav was immense and we lived on it.
All in all, fabulous in name, and in reality - if you factor in the gorgeous and constant weather, the sites of Rome, including watching AS Roma football match at the stadio olimpico along with a tour of the coliseum and Vatican City then I don’t know what else you need from a holiday. It was truly a holiday my kids will remember forever and a little proud of myself that I pulled it all off on my own. Thanks Fabulous Team.
