Mixed bag - kids loved it, adults not impressed

We stayed at Le Chaponnet for 14 nights in Aug 2023, a family of 2 adults and 3 kids aged 10,7 & 5. The waterslides were great. The kids spent hours on them, very safe and well maintained. The outdoor pool was nice and we always got a sun lounger or deck chair at the pool area. The playground, inflatables,... tennis court, football pitch, table tennis were all good. The games room is a bit dated and some machines not working.
The accommodation (2 bed cottage) was nice, on par with other 4* campsites. Modern furnishings, with fridge and a dishwasher. Shower was spacious and mostly we had hot water (one day not). Unfortunately the accommodation was not clean when we arrived. The floors were dirty and unswept. The kitchen was not clean and there was food from the previous occupants in the cupboards. As the reception was closed (7pm Sunday) we could not get any assistance, so we cleaned it ourselves. The following day the management agreed to return our €95 cleaning deposit and to clean it on departure, which was OK for us.
There is only one restaurant/bar in the campsite and it was not good. We tried it 3 times hoping it would improve but it didn’t. The food is average (pizzas are awful), the service is friendly but not very customer focused. For example, we tried to order burgers without cheese and tomato/lettuce but we were told that ‘the chef refuses to make any changes to the menu’. This was a bizarre response to a fairly standard request (which was happily obliged in every other restaurant we visited). On another occasion, after a mix-up with our order we sent a dish back. The waiter was very helpful and professional, but then chef came out from the kitchen to stand beside our table glaring intensely at us before muttering and grumbling in very irritated and angry manner. It was unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour and embarrassing for us. Afterwards the staff attempted to make a joke... "now you have met our angry chef... hahaha". This was not funny at all, in fact it was really awful experience to be treated like that in a restaurant. We didn’t go back. I sent an email to reception to complain but got no reply. On checkout they told me that they had spoken to the chef but that the restaurant is run separately from the campsite so there is nothing that campsite management can do about it. Not a great attitude to be honest.
We found some nice options for eating out in Brem-sur-Mer and the surrounding areas. We also went to other campsite restaurants. There is a nice local market right outside the campsite on Tuesday and Friday mornings and some Thursday evenings, and live music and food/drink in the adjacent park on Friday nights. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the town. We travelled around the area and along the coast mostly by bicycle. There are cycle paths separate from roads which are ideal for children.
Overall, despite the deficiencies, we had a nice two week holiday. The kids liked the campsite (in particular the pool and water slides) however our experiences in the restaurant and lack of any meaningful response were very disappointing. The level of customer service here was well below what we have received in other French campsites. We won’t be going back.
