Peaceful and relaxing holiday

We had the good fortune to come across the website for Camping le Carbonnier while searching for a quiet area to spend a couple of weeks. We booked early in the year and so were able to avail of an excellent rate, two weeks for the price of one!
We stayed here late spring/early summer and while the... weather was sometimes not as good as we had expected we were nevertheless able to get out for a long walk every day. The area is excellent for anyone interested in walking. It is criss-crossed by a network of small, quiet roads which offer many opportunities for exploring the small towns and villages in the area.
St. Martial itself is a very small village which boasts one small bakery and shop staffed by its very friendly and helpful proprietor. For a bigger shopping expedition there are larger towns in the area with all the major supermarkets. Gourdon is only a matter of 10-15 minutes by car.
Further afield there are many cities and sites worth visiting e.g. Rocamadour, Sarlat etc.
The campsite itself is exactly as described in its advertising, bar and cafe, swimming pools, pet-farm, lake etc. The one criticism I would have is that on first arrival at the site we found it difficult to find our mobile home because of the lack of signposting with regard to the numbering of the mobile homes. We were not alone in this regard as others had the same problem. The very helpful lady in reception did give good directions but, as it transpired, our mobile home did not have any number on it at all...a little bit frustrating.
Having said that, in general our stay was excellent. The mobile homes are clean and well equipped. There is everything needed for a holiday. Wi-fi is available, about Euro30 for two weeks, as far as I remember. As it was early in the season It was very quiet while we were there which suited us just fine.
Overall the campsite is very well run and maintained. What it does have over and above many other campsites is its excellent and helpful staff. We would have no hesitation staying there again.
