Changing demographics over the years, not always for the good.

Have been a regular visitor to this campsite since 2012 and stay between 4 & 6 weeks from opening to July. Following a change in management around 2018, the camp has lost some of its charm and does not have a clear direction with regard to its aims. It was a camp of two halves, those that want sea... and sand and those that want a mooring for their boat. Despite its overall size the pitches are very close to each other and offer little privacy. To some extent zone 1 was very quite for those that just want peace. Recent pitch gradings have been accomplished poorly in as much as they have been placed where they best fit rather than understanding the needs of larger outfits and their occupants. For instance on zone 1 top priced pitches are right next to tents that accommodate 100’s of schoolchildren for the period May,JuneJuly. This like being in an unruly playground 90% of the time. As these groups of children need to eat, the pool bar/Restaurant is out of bounds for this period, set out for their daily needs. Clearly a business objective but little thought for guests whilst they run riot around the site. Staffseem reluctant to do anything claiming cohabitation is necessary.
Whilst you can choose seafront pitches, or pitches in the centre expect little sleep, as the midnight curfew is not monitored adequately. A new campsite has stated across the river where all night raves are common, and as they have little/no facilities their guest walk across the bridge to use your facilities. A wrist band was introduced in June to control this, but it is NOT enforced. Another example of many words but no action. It has become a bit unruly…
Overall beautiful spot, but choosing the right pitch to suit your needs is paramount. There have always been issues with opening of the river to the sea, and this year was no exception. Ok for ribs and small craft, but fell short of advertised sea access for rigid hull boats. Trailers have to be left in unsecured compound at own risk.
Will return again, as it’s the only camp offering moorings on the bay, but it needs to improve much more on the rules of the site to make it comfortable for everyone, not just the chosen few.
