Family in caravan for 7 nights
15 August 2019 at 17:29:08
We are currently staying on this site in our caravan – we have Mum, Dad and 2 children aged 12 and 14. We still have stayed here for 7 nights by the time we leave. This is an honest review based on our experiences this year, and obviously is compared to other French sites which we have stayed on as... well.
Positives:
• Checking in was quick and easy – the receptionist was confident and this was helped by her excellent English as well.
• There is a barrier for security – you get your own code.
• There is a wide range of facilities including 3 pools, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, boules, a gym, bar and restaurant, river
• The restaurant serves takeaway food at a good price, quickly, and well cooked. It was great for the first night.
• The pitches are very big – plenty of space to use for whatever you need.
• Most pitches seen to have a water point very nearby – in our area (No. 279) every pitch seems to have water and drainage.
• You can book the tennis court free of charge, and also rent other items such as footballs, tennis gear, basketballs etc. free as well.
• The toilets are clean and well maintained.
• An initial problem with the power supply (no earth) was looked at quickly.
Negatives:
• The site doesn’t live up to the standards of a 4* facility. Many of the paths and surroundings are poorly maintained, with weeds growing up and bushes hanging over pathways. The tennis court has weeds growing round the edge and mucky corners, as does one of the boules pitches.
• We were amazed at how empty the site is for the first few weeks in August. There just don’t seem to be many people here, so the atmosphere is somewhat dead. My 12 year old went to the teens club (12-17 year-olds) on the first day and was told that it’s not running as he’s the only one who turned up.
• The sinks within the toilet area have broken soap dispensers which don’t seem to have been maintained, so no soap is available for handwashing.
• The pitches within our area were very open, and it seemed ‘normal’ for kids and, indeed, adults, to walk straight across our pitch, sometimes in between our car and our caravan. This could be corrected by better pathways and clearer signage.
• Our power supply had no earth. We re-cabled to a further supply, but other visitors continued to use the one with no earth. There was no sign put in place to state it may be potentially faulty.
• The toilets don’t have any toilet seats. Other 4* facilities we have visited in France have had toilet seats.
• The pools were very disappointing. The water slides are good, but the pool into which you land is only about 1m deep – far too shallow to land in from a fast slide. Potential for damaged feet and other injuries here. The main, big pool was always covered over, even in hot weather – the site chose not to slide the roof back. It also had lots of flies floating around in the water, making us unsure as to how well maintained it is.
• The big pool doesn’t really have a deep section – I could stand up in the whole of the pool and I’m not the tallest.
• There is no free WIFI, even at the bar, and the paid WIFI is extremely unreliable.
• Bread is available every morning, but it was far from freshly-baked.
We won't be staying here again, unless it's for a 1-night stop-over.
