A welcome surprise!

I booked this campsite a few months in advance of our trip and then had a closer look at reviews on here and Google a couple of days before we were due to arrive. I have to admit, some of the reviews did make me a bit worried about what we'd find and made me question why I'd booked the site in the first... place...
I needn't have worried. I can see why the campsite isn't everyone's cup of tea but we really liked it. The site itself is set on a wooded slope that goes down to the lake and yes, some of the pitches are very slopey indeed. We were lucky enough to get pitch no. 40 which was level and enormous - ideal for our almost 9m motor home. There wasn't a water point on our pitch but it wasn't far away.
Sure, the loo/shower blocks are clearly pretty old but the cleaner worked hard for a good few hours every morning and they were always spotless when we used them. The rumours are true about lack of hot water for washing up, though, but that didn't worry us too much. We thought the pool area was great - the water was a lovely temperature and the pool looked very well maintained. (Perhaps fairly recently re-lined?) Our only issue there was a lack of sunbeds but with a 5 year old in tow, there wasn't much lying around anyway.
Other plus points: the motor home service point was well-located and very easily accessible. Additionally, bread/croissants could be pre-ordered from the shop and we're delicious although when we were there, this service wasn't available on a Monday. Additionally, our daughter really enjoyed the two big inflatables set up near the pool.
The biggest plus for us was the location next to the lake. We had a kayak with us and were initially disappointed to learn that the area of the lake next to the campsite was designated for water skiing. However, we found out that the water ski centre were fine with you launching canoes as long as you stuck within a few metres of the shore until you were out of the water ski area. The lake was also great for swimming - the water is so clear - and our daughter particularly enjoyed the beach near the campsite.
So in summary: this campsite is perhaps not for you if you're after an immaculate, all-singing, all-dancing Yelloh style resort but it has an awful lot to offer. It honestly one of the few places we've made a mental note to return to one day.
